Bud-a

A household budgeting app for families that sits on Claude Code and runs on your own computer. It tracks spending, parses receipts, and turns the result into something you can actually read.

What it does

A web UI and a Python API, with Claude agents behind them. The home tab is widgets you compose yourself — revenue, spending, savings — each reading from your operations list, with a progress bar when a widget tracks a budget you have set.

Budgets keep their history, so raising your food budget in May raises it from May rather than rewriting the year. The study tab breaks each category down by month and family member, and the charts are clickable: click the bar for what someone spent on a category in July and you land on that filtered list of transactions.

The AI layer

Four agents do the tedious parts. A receipt parser reads a photo and pulls out the date, merchant, items and total, suggesting a category from your own matching rules. A budget analyst answers questions about trends and anomalies. A backup manager makes encrypted backups, and an integrity checker audits the CSVs for orphaned keys and duplicate IDs.

There are slash commands for the common paths — /add-expense, /monthly-report, /backup — and an optional Telegram channel for logging an expense from your phone.

Install

Clone it, add your own CSVs to data/, and start both servers. The first run asks for a default currency and writes the env files for you. The UI is at localhost:5173.
